MY CAR BROKE DOWN Getting overheated Trying to move too fast A blown out radiator An urban underpass I stopped to take a moment Out of a busy day I wish that I could tell you I had it planned that way The length and breadth of this old motorway I drove a hundred times Caught my first glimpse today Somewhere a pointless meeting Now has an empty chair And if the choice had been mine I’d pick here over there My car broke down And I’m OK about it There are days that catch the light So that they reflect There are days like diamonds The ones you least expect And in the roar of diesel And in the dirty fumes The rain is bouncing off of My warm metal cocoon My car broke down And I’m OK, OK Help is on its way Buddy take your time Cos I’m OK about it

about

Written with beautiful views all around and under a baking hot sun, surrounded by some of my closest friends on a songwriting weekend in Bridge of Orchy, Scotland. Given only the title, I was tasked with writing an entire song. It occurred to me that the eponymous automotive mishap ought to be one of life's unexpected beautiful moments.
